Coney Island Cafe

It's hard to believe that one business which is still open today was also big part of the community of Pampa in 1944. The Coney Island Cafe was serving hot dogs and hamburgers to the people of Pampa as well as all those men and women stationed at the Pampa Army Air Field. The Coney Island Cafe entered the American heartland in 1933 thanks to Bill Coronis and later, his nephews, Ted and John Gikas. Early on the two young men established a menu with $1.20 hamburgers and $.80 coneys, among other things, and began their business in the lobby of the State Theatre. The Coney Island Cafe is a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
