20. Hope for the Future
Charles Umlaufs sculptures range from realism to expressionism and lyrical abstraction. Hope for the Future was installed in 1987 at the First State Bank Building, 500 Oak St. It was moved to the campus of Abilene Christian University in 1989. Umlaufs work can be seen in public collections and museums across the United States, including the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., and the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. In Texas, there are more of his sculptures in public placements than work by any other single sculptor.
