Shamrock's location is referred to as the "Crossroads of America" where Interstate 40 and U.S. Highway 83 intersect. It's the only crossing of two major border to border highways in the United States. One of Historic Route 66's most photographed landmarks is Shamrock's renovated art deco-style Tower Station and U-Drop Inn. Youngsters will certainly recognize the Tower Station and U-Drop Inn as its likeness is featured in the Walt Disney movie "Cars" and "Cars II". Its likeness is also the souvenir shop at Disney's recently opened Cars Land. Tourists from all over the world have visited this landmark built in 1936 which is located in the heart of Shamrock at the corner of Highway 83 and Historic Route 66. This top Route 66 attraction is also Shamrock's Information Center and features an expanded Route 66 and Texas gift shop. The Shamrock Water Tower is the tallest water tower of its type in Texas. A park area depicting the history of the water tower's construction and a 90 foot mural tracing Shamrock's history is well worth a short drive or walk to the south end of our downtown business district. Like the Tower Station and U-Drop Inn, the Water Tower Plaza provides great photo opportunities, so bring your camera. If you wish -- beer, wine and liquor is now available in convenience, grocery, package stores, some restaurants and sports bars. This, along with over 500 + hotel/motel rooms, great restaurants and unique shops, has made Shamrock a very popular stop. Also, I don't think you will find a better museum featuring the Old West and Texas Panhandle history than Shamrock's Pioneer West Museum. Our museum is located one block east and one block north of the historic water tower at 204 N. Madden Street. Shamrock's downtown area has a variety of businesses, including a movie theatre now featuring the Texas Panhandle's largest screen, hi-def, digital, satellite and 3-D presentations. If you're into antiquing, Shamrock has some of the finest shops you'll find anywhere. Your Shamrock hotel stay entitles you to a free round of golf at the Shamrock Country Club or free admission to most events that are scheduled during your stay with us.
As you can see Shamrock offers a charming family experience like no other. We have a great Country Club, many new hotels, shopping, restaurants, an event center and the last remaining Texas Theater in operation! Centrally located on I-40 and Historic Route 66, we have access to both modern comforts and historic architecture from an era not long forgotten along Route 66. Shamrock is a community of friendly people working together for progress and development, but never too busy for a friendly word or a helping hand. Come visit us and STAY & PLAY in Shamrock, TX on your trip down Route 66 or I-40!
