Montgomery County Preserve

Visit the Montgomery County Preserve for birdwatching, native plant observation and hiking! Nature trails meander through the preserve. Interpretive signs reveal the forest wonders, identifying native plants and trees with interesting information about each.
The 71-acre preserve, open to the public daily at no charge, brings many ecotourists to southern Montgomery County. Local Master Naturalists and Butterfly Enthusiasts of Southeast Texas (B.E.S.T.) host national butterfly counts, monitor water quality, and provide educational programs for area citizens. The preserve lies near the confluence of Spring Creek and Panther Creek, but provides no direct access to the waterways.
Established in 2002, Bayou Land Conservancy holds a conservation easement on the property, which permanently protects the land from development. This was the first conservation easement in the State of Texas signed with a county government. Bayou Land Conservancy is a nonprofit organization directly involved in protecting land for its natural, recreational, scenic, and historical value.
