Georgetown

Georgetown, A great small town founded 156 years ago at the fork of the North and South San Gabriel river. Georgetown lies between the lush fertile farm land to the east and the hill country ranch land Balcones escarpment to the west. The city was established in 1848 as a trading center for the surrounding agricultural area. Much of the town has been preserved through participation in the Main Street Project. Georgetown Texas is one of the few old towns that didn't have a devastating fire - as so many of the old towns did. We lost so much history that way - the old towns were made of wood and with no real firefighting equipment as we know it now - they just when up in smoke - or was torn down by the new kids on the block. Thank God the city of Georgetown had better sense.
