Hulver

HULVER, TEXAS . Hulver, four miles south of the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River in east central Hall County, was the first post office in the county established south of the river. The post office, named for William Hulver Meador of nearby Newlin, opened in 1891 with Sanford Z. Beavers as postmaster. The first school south of the river was also established at this site and was known as the Mount Nebo school. The Hulver post office closed in 1898, reopened in 1910, and closed a final time in 1920. The community's school closed in 1930. By 1947 only a store and fewer than twenty residents remained at Hulver. The 1983 county highway map shows only a cemetery at the Hulver townsite.
