Lime City

LIME CITY, TEXAS . Lime City was a small community in eastern Coryell County on the St. Louis Southwestern Railway two miles south of Oglesby. It developed around a lime-producing plant operated by Ben Friend in the 1880s, and during the industry's peak years the community was an important rail stop. Lime City declined as the quality of the lime deteriorated, and by the 1940s the community was only a whistle stop, with its population reported as twenty-four. Only parts of the lime plant and general store remained in the 1980s. A cement company based in Waco used rock from the Lime City area to make white cement.
