Rexville

REXVILLE, TEXAS . Rexville was on the east bank of the San Bernard River six miles southwest of Sealy in southwestern Austin County. Anglo-American settlement in the vicinity began in the late 1830s, but the town itself, originally known as Reckville, was founded by German immigrants in the late 1870s. In the 1880s the town became a shipping point and flag stop on the Sealy-Eagle Lake spur of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway. The town experienced little development; no post office was ever established, and the community received its mail through Sealy. By the mid-twentieth century only a few scattered farm dwellings and a triangulation station on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway marked the former townsite.
