Beach City
Beach City is located on Farm Road 2354 and Trinity Bay about eight miles southeast of Baytown in western Chambers County. During the early to mid-1900s the area had bayside homes and camps. In 1963 the Tri-City Beach Civic Association formed in order to organize the development of a breakwater on Trinity Bay to prevent beach erosion. Facing possible annexation by nearby Baytown, the association redirected its focus to pursue the possibility of incorporating the area. On April 5, 1966, residents overwhelmingly voted to incorporate, and Beach City was born. The new town encompassed an eight-mile-long and quarter-mile-wide strip along Trinity Bay. Two years later Beach City annexed an additional 2,000 acres. In 1970 the community had 116 residents. That figure greatly increased by 1980 to 977 residents, but leveled off in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 2000 the population had increased to 1,645. Beach City has a mayor and aldermen. Two family cemeteries of some of the early pioneers who lived in the area, the Fishers and Barrows, are located within the city limits.
