Opdyke West
Opdyke West is on State Highway 114 four miles east of Levelland in central Hockley County. It took its name from the nearby settlement of Opdyke. For several years it was a trailer-house park. It was incorporated in 1984, in part to capitalize on liquor sales in an otherwise dry region. Though its population was more than 200 at the time of incorporation, the decline in the oil industry during the mid-1980s reduced the number of residents to about 160. The community has a mayor-council form of city government
