A post office was established there in 1876, when Postoak had a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a church. Throughout its history Postoak has served as a community center and retail point for area farmers. Its population was reported at just above 100 from the 1930s until the early 1970s. In 1990 there were an estimated seventy-nine residents in Postoak. The population remained the same in 2000.
